Invisible pressure of “Char log”

From the topic itself, you might have guessed today I want to talk about society and those infamous “char log” (four people) who have corrupted the thinking of an entire generation.

As a woman, right from childhood, I’ve encountered people who judged me based on how I looked. I have beauty spots on my face, something I personally love and proudly call beauty spots. But society had other names for them. People would often suggest I get them removed, claiming they made me look “ugly.”

Their words cut deep. I began to feel ashamed of how I looked. It went so far that I even considered about laser treatment to remove those beauty spots. I kept all this pain to myself until I couldn’t anymore and informed my father about it.

He became my pillar. He helped me see my beauty through his eyes, taught me that the people who say such hurtful things are simply filled with filth not in looks, but in thoughts. And then there was my husband, my second strong support system, who reminded me every day that I was enough just the way I am.

Yes, I’m lucky to have two amazing men in my life. But this isn’t just my story.

Let’s talk about who these “char log” really are and more importantly, why is it almost always women who are judged by them?

I’ve seen so many women judged for:

  • What they wear
  • How they sit
  • How they talk
  • With whom they talk
  • How much makeup they wear
  • Whether they are too thin or too fat
  • Whether they are fair or dark

And the list goes on…

Society just keeps saying:
“Theek se baitho.”
“Theek se baat karo.”
“Acha dikho — warna char log kya kahenge?”

But who ARE these “char log”’?
And honestly, don’t they have anything better to do than police others’ lives?

I’ve come to believe that these people are probably miserable in their own lives, and so they choose to poke their noses into others’ finding comfort in putting others down.

So if any of those “char log” are reading this here’s what I want to ask and say:

  1. Why do you judge women so much more than men?
  2. Who gave you the right to decide what’s acceptable and what’s not?
  3. Get a life. Invest your energy in something useful, something that actually helps society instead of ruining the peace of others with your unsolicited opinions.

To my readers have youever been the target of this “char log”?
And to the men reading this: have you ever faced it too.
Because while women are targeted more, I truly wonder are men judged as well?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
Let’s break the silence around these “char log” and take back our power.

Most people who judge others truly have the same problem- that you’ve mentioned….not fulfilled in their own lives. It’s beautiful to see how you’ve battled through all that and found the actual beauty that matters- your own self worth! <3
